How We Review Tools
How We Review Tools
Every review on Provena.ai follows the same structured process. This page explains what that process looks like and why we think it produces reviews you can trust.
We test each tool ourselves
Before we publish a review, a member of our editorial team signs up for the tool and uses it for its intended purpose. We do not rewrite marketing copy or rely solely on demos. If a tool offers a free tier, we start there. If a paid plan is needed to evaluate core features, we pay for it. First-hand experience is the foundation of every assessment.
Scoring: 0 to 100
Each tool receives an editorial score on a 0-to-100 scale. The score reflects a combination of factors: feature set, ease of use, output quality, pricing and value, reliability, and how well the tool serves its stated audience. We do not use a rigid formula where each factor is weighted identically across all categories, because what matters most in a transcription tool is different from what matters in an image generator. Instead, the score represents our editorial judgment of overall quality and fit.
What we evaluate
For every tool, we assess the following areas:
- Features -- What does the tool actually do, and how well does it do it?
- Pricing -- Is the pricing transparent, fair, and competitive within its category?
- Ease of use -- Can a new user get meaningful results without a steep learning curve?
- Pros and cons -- We list specific strengths and weaknesses, not vague generalities.
- Alternatives -- Where relevant, we mention comparable tools so you can make an informed comparison.
No pay-for-placement
Our scores and rankings are not for sale. A tool with an affiliate program receives the same scrutiny as one without. We have given low scores to tools that offer generous commissions, and high scores to tools that offer none. If you see a tool ranked highly on Provena, it is because our team genuinely found it to be good, not because someone paid us to say so.
Freshness and re-verification
AI tools change rapidly. A tool that was excellent six months ago may have changed its pricing, degraded in quality, or been surpassed by a new competitor. We regularly revisit published reviews to verify that the information is still accurate. Each review displays a "last reviewed" date so you can see how recently it was checked.
Corrections and feedback
If you spot something inaccurate in a review, we want to hear about it. We take corrections seriously and update published content when warranted. You can reach us through our contact page.
